History of Keeping Memories Alive (Scrapbooks.com)

Keeping Memories Alive was founded in 1981 by AJ and Marielen Christensen and together they launched the first brick-and-mortar scrapbooking store in the world. In subsequent years they launched the first scrapbooking catalog, unveiled the first scrapbooking-related web-store, wrote the first scrapbooking idea books, and were the first manufacturers of scrapbooking products. They also developed and manufactured the world-famous Keeping Memories Alive Albums. The KMA Albums took the scrapbooking world by storm over a decade ago and are still sold to tens of thousands of scrapbookers across the globe.

Over the years the company grew to be a leader in the scrapbooking industry in many capacities: manufacturing, distribution, retail (online and offline), education, and community. Its online store at Scrapbooks.com has been one of the most visited scrapbooking-related web-stores on the Internet.

In 2007 AJ and Marielen began exploring buyout opportunities for their business. "As we contemplated retirement, we sought out a company that we wanted to assume the long tradition of KMA Scrapbooks.com, continue our legacy, and uphold the same standards that we had based our company on," said Marielen Christensen, founder of Keeping Memories Alive.

On May 31, 2007 Keeping Memories Alive announced it had been acquired by Scrapbook.com, a leading online destination for scrapbookers worldwide. Scrapbook.com acquired all of the web-retail and catalog assets of KMA, including the Scrapbooks.com domain name and website.

For several years, Scrapbook.com continued to run the Scrapbooks.com site separately. The two sites (Scrapbooks.com and Scrapbook.com) operated as "sister sites" with different customers and even product selection. Both sites continued to be a leaders in the online scrapbooking space.

In late 2011, Scrapbook.com announced that it was merging the sites together into one super-site. "It became evident that we could provide a better experience for our customers at both sites if we combined them together," says Jill Davis, Founder of Scrapbook.com. "This is an exciting, new chapter in the Keeping Memories Alive story."
