The Life Cycle of the Butterfly- DD's school project   Ibeckerca Thursday, 22 May 2008

During the past few weeks, my DD's kindergarten class has been learning about butterflies.   As a conclusion, her teacher assigned the class a project of showing the life of a butterfly.   All that was needed was to make a caterpillar and make a butterfly.   When the teacher escorted my DD to the car she told that since I was a creative and crafty mom this assignment would be easy.
At home, I was coming up with ideas on how we could do the 8x11 1/2 paper.   First, I thought of doing a stensile of a butterfly and use vellum for its wings like a stain glass.   DD didn't like that idea.   In fact she did not want my input.
So I went on-line to find out what consist of the life of the butterfly.   The wheels of my creative brain began to spin.   Instead of just doing the caterpillar and butterfly, I thought of adding the leaf and the cocoon.   I suggested the idea to DD and she liked the idea.
I printed out the drawings of what I was able to find.  DD colored them in which she did a great job.   I offered the idea of using some Speckles on them to make items stand out.   That was a go.   After the Speckles dried, I started cutting them out.   Then I came up with another creative idea of using wires on the caterpillar's body and legs and the butterfly's antenna.   And instead of putting this stuff on a 8x11 1/2 paper, put it on the 12x12 with a bit of words about each one.   At this point, DD has yet to see the finish project (see gallery).
All I have to say is that she better get an A+ for it.   I'll let you know what the grade will be...
